Banking On Our Future
These Roland Berger Consultants from the Chicago and Detroit offices participated in the program called "Banking On Our Future" at The Sawyer Elementary School, Chicago. We also had volunteers from Northwestern, Kellogg, and Chicago Booth.
Every child deserves a bright future - education is the foundation
On Friday, March 16, 2012, several Roland Berger colleagues from the Chicago and Detroit offices headed off to The Sawyer Elementary School in South Chicago to work with seven classroom of 4th graders to teach them several topics including Banking basics, credit, and investing.
The program, called Banking On Our Future, is a special program offered through Operation Hope to help promote financial literacy to low wealth communities. The kids were so well behaved and were really having a good time. The Roland Berger team brought in some interesting "props" to help make the learning fun which included giant play money, checks and debit and credit cards.
The Roland Berger volunteer team included seven current employees, two new joiners, and three volunteers from local universities. The North America group plans to continue our volunteer efforts with the Operation HOPE Banking On Our Future program in the near future.
The Mission of Operation HOPE is to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities through economic education and empowerment. Operation HOPE improves the economic quality of life for individuals, families, and communities through programs that create stakeholders: converting check cashing customers into banking customers, renters into home owners, small business dreamers into small business owners, and minimum wage workers into living wage workers.
